Premium IOLs are the new generation.

There are several types of Premium IOLs in the market including the Alcon ReSTOR IOL, Alcon Toric, Abbott AMO Tecnis MF and B&L Crystalens HD. A new standard of vision correction is being set with Premium IOLs, in which patients are enabled to do most of their daily activities without glasses, including driving, watching TV, working at the computer, reading and all daily visual activities on the move. Please don't forget to ask for more information on Premium IOLs during your cataract or RLE consultation.

What types of Intraocular Lenses are available?

1. Monofocal IOL: With the introduction of the aspheric monofocal IOLs, people can enjoy very crisp distance vision. It is important, however, that there is little or no astigmatism when using a Monofocal IOL.  Otherwise, a Toric IOL is necessary.
2. Toric IOL: This is a monofocal IOL that allows for the correction of astigmatism. It is considered a Premium IOL.
3. Multifocal IOL: This Premium IOL allows for distance and near vision. In this case, it is also important for the patient to have very little astigmatism. Currently, an IOL that both corrects astigmatism and is multifocal is unavailable in the market. Astigmatic LASIK is a viable add-on option for those individuals with moderate or high astigmatism seeking multifocality after cataract surgery.
4, Light Adjustable Lens (LAL): The LAL is the most revolutionary IOL in the current IOL pipeline. Although it is still under FDA, is currently available in Europe and Mexico. The LAL allows for an unprecedented degree of accuracy and versatility. It is possible to create optics with aspheric (great distance vision), toxicity (astigmatism correction) and multimodality (allows for both, distance and near vision). In our opinion, this is going to be the most popular IOL in the near future. CODET Vision Institute is proud of having participated in the development of this IOL and it is considered by Dr. Chayet to be the best option available in Cataract/IOL surgery.
