Dry Eye Clinic to launch at CODET 8/16/2017

Dry Eye Clinic to launch at CODET Vision Institute

Have you ever wondered the importance of the tears our eyes produce? Tears are produced by special structures in our eyes called lacrimal glands, which constantly produced this substance known as tear that lubricates our eyes, protects them against infections, and contributes to the adequate performance of our vision.

Anomalies may occur in this lacrimal film giving rise to Dry Eye Syndrome. According to the NEI (National Eye Institute) in the USA, dry eye originates when the quality of the tears is deficient and/or the quantity of the tear in the eye is not sufficient.

Dry eye has become one of the most common conditions of our time. Millions of people have dry eye. The American Academy of Ophthalmology reports that more than 4.9 millions of americans age 50 are affected by Dry Eye Syndrome.

Deficient tears can cause one or several of the following symptoms: dryness, itchiness, irritation, blurred vision and sensitivity to light, foreign body sensation, and excessive tearing.

According to National Institute of Health, there are several factors that cause dry eye like: warm, humid, or windy climates, environmental pollution, cigarette smoke, air conditioners, and use of computers or other electronic devices that force users to look for prolonged periods of time. Age is also an important factor since, as we get older, the quality and quantity of our tears can diminish.

Dry eye is also related with the overall status of people’s health. For example, if you have any sort of hormonal imbalance (like menopause), diabetes, arthritis, vitamin deficiency or lupus, you very probably have dry eye.

As any other disease, dry eye must be diagnosed and be treated as soon as possible to avoid future complications. There are different kinds of dry eye and only an ophthalmological expert can diagnose and treat dry eye.

In the last few years, treatment for dry eye has evolved a lot. Besides the use of artificial tears drop that exist nowadays, there are also other alternatives to improve the quantity and quality of tears.

At CODET Vision Institute, we will open the doors of one of the first Dry Eye Clinics in Mexico, where medical experts supported by the latest technology will make an adequate diagnosis and treatment for dry eyes.

Dry Eye Clinic will have MiBo Thermoflo technology which is the first and only one in Mexico. This technology treats patients with Dry Eye syndrome in a very cost-effective way.

This device works by providing a consistent temperature of around 108 degrees Fahrenheit. This heat is applied against the surface of the external eyelid using a thermoelectric eyepad, the goal behind the treatment is to liquefy the obstruction and lead to better quality and quantity of the tear film. The treatment will last for a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes, and for best results 3 to 4 sessions are required.
