Innovative AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal Toric Lens available in Mexico

Cataracts in the simplest terms is the opacification of the crystalline lens, which would be the equivalent of the lens of a photographic camera; if the lens is dirty it doesn’t allow the correct passing of light and can cause images to appear blurry.

There are several reasons why cataracts may appear and one of the main ones is age. Proteins in the crystalline lens oxidize as part of the natural aging process which causes the crystalline lens to opacify.

The most efficient way of solving the problems caused by cataracts is Phacoemulsification surgery, which is a minimally invasive surgery in which the opacified crystalline lens is extracted from the patient’s eye to later implant an intraocular lens, allowing the patient to see once again with clarity and preventing other visual health problems such as glaucoma.

Intraocular lens technology has evolved from 1949 when Dr. Ridner implanted the first monofocal intraocular lens in London to the present day when the most modern technologies are trifocal lens that allow one to see at different distances (close, intermediate and far), allowing patients to enjoy a high degree of independence from the lenses.

Last May in CODET Vision Institute, we performed the first implant of one of the most innovative technologies regarding intraocular lens implants: the intraocular toric trifocal AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® lens, which besides allowing patients to see at different distances, it also corrects one of the most common refractive errors which is astigmatism.

CODET Vision Institute has developed cataract surgery from being a surgery whose only objective was to extract the opacified crystalline to one of total visual correction, in which we are aiming to provide the best visual result for the patient, using the latest in visual implant technologies.

It is important to visit the cataract surgery expert to know what is the best option regarding intraocular implants and to know more about this and other new technologies’ benefits, some of which are only available in Mexico and not in the USA like the intraocular toric trifocal AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® lens
