Whale Watching is the Most Spectacular Tourist Attraction in Baja California 1/8/2020

The region’s most awaited natural tourist attraction is finally here. Like every year, Northern and Southern Baja California are the destination point for the biggest cetaceans in the oceans: whales. One of the most emblematic natural activities in the Baja California peninsula is whale watching.

Whale watching is one of the greatest opportunities any person could have to see and experience one of the most spectacular and impressive sights of the marine world. This unique and wonderful experience can take place in both the Pacific Ocean and Mar de Cortez.

Dozens of visitors arrive at certain spots in the ocean to witness the marvelous sights of the arriving whales. The visitors all participate with the necessary precautions and aided by experts to avoid disturbing the whales as they swim, communicate, and enjoy themselves in their natural habitat. Some of the magnificent cetaceans that visit Baja Californian waters are:

Humpback whale. You may see this type of whale during winter and spring in the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of California, the Bay of La Paz and the Bay of Loreto. It is estimated that there are only 15,000 of this species left in the wild.

Gray whale. This incredible whale always surprises everyone due to its huge tail and its swimming speed. If you want to appreciate this beautiful specimen, you can go to the whale sanctuaries in El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve in Southern Baja California from January to March.

Blue whale. The biggest whale in the world also visits Baja Californian waters. Most of the time it can be watched from November to May from the western coast in the Baja California peninsula and Mar de Cortez in Loreto Bay National Park.
