Presbyopia with IOLs
|
Since the root of presbyopia is the progressive lost of elasticity and the stiffening of the natural lens, it makes sense that the replacement of the aging natural lens by a sophisticated artificial intraocular lens (IOL) may be the ultimate and most logical avenue to take for the management of presbyopia. The procedure is being called Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE). Currently, in most cases, we prefer to delay RLE until age 55, as this is when the natural lens loses its elasticity completely and becomes almost an obsolete part of the eye. There are a variety of new IOL technologies including multifocal IOLs, accommodating IOLs and adjustable IOLs. The CODET Vision Institute has become one of the premier and most advanced centers in the world for the correction of presbyopia using IOLs. Recently, we have introduced the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL). Please learn more about the LAL here.
