Trifocal Intraocular Lenses: Panoptix and Symfony 9/23/2016

In Cataract and Refractive Lens Exchange surgery, the natural (crystalline) lens is replaced with an intraocular lens.
Previously, the intraocular lens, in addition to restoring transparency, only allowed patients to have good distance vision. With respect to both near and intermediate vision, patients typically needed glasses to after surgery.
Intraocular lenses designed only to provide distance vision are monofocal lenses. While these types of lenses are old technology, they are still today the most commonly implanted intraocular lenses.

Which is the main feature in trifocal intraocular lenses?

As its name implies: the trifocals have three focus areas. These three focus areas correspond to distance, intermediate, and near vision. Besides providing good vision for both distance and near, trifocals also provide good intermediate vision, which is increasingly required for the use of tablets and computers.
