Dry eye or dry eye syndrome is an alteration that occurs on the surface of the cornea and conjunctiva due to lack of tear, or poor quality of tears.

The main manifestations are usually eye discomfort, strange body sensation, decreased visual acuity, pain, stinging, redness, in addition to fatigue or heaviness in the eyelids. In more advanced cases, cornea and conjunctiva eye lesions. Excessive tearing can be secondary to dry eye, and this happens as a reflex.

There are mainly two types of dry eye, for lack of tear production, or for poor quality of tear.
