Myopia
Myopia is a common condition that causes nearsightedness. CODET Vision Institute helps patients manage myopia with eye exams, diagnostics, LASIK, and surgical solutions.
Procedure
Cornea Lenticule Extraction for Advanced Refractive-Correction (CLEAR) is a femtosecond laser surgery that is used to correct Myopia and Astigmatism without creating a corneal flap.
Much like LASIK or PRK, CLEAR uses a laser to reshape your cornea, which corrects your vision. To improve your vision using a laser, the surgeon needs to make the correction in the middle, or stromal layer, of your cornea. In PRK and LASIK, the top layer of the cornea is removed or peeled back in order for the laser to access and reshape the stroma.
With CLEAR procedure, the top layers of the cornea stay intact. A laser generates two thin bubble layers within the stromal layer of the cornea, creating a disc-shaped piece of corneal tissue called the lenticule. The surgeon gently removes the lenticule through a small incision. Removal of the lenticule permanently changes the shape of your cornea, resulting in better vision.
The CLEAR procedure may be a better option for those prone to Dry Eye or those who are not candidates for LASIK. It is also a good option for those seeking a faster visual recovery. Most patients return to their normal routines just a few days after the procedure.
As laser eye surgery continues to innovate, more surgeries are being done without blades and with much shorter, safer recovery periods. CLEAR is a newer procedure, very similar to SMILE, however there are some advantages to CLEAR, as detailed below.
If we do recommend CLEAR to address your Myopia and/or Astigmatism, you can expect a painless procedure that will take less than 20 minutes to complete in total.
