ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)

Procedure

ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)

Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) may be an excellent alternative to refractive surgery for optimal candidates such as those with moderate to high Myopia, Astigmatism, or Hyperopia.

An Overview: ICL Surgery

At a Glance:

  • ICL Surgery Corrects refractive errors, eliminating the need for glasses or contacts
  • Ideal for those with strong prescriptions or thin corneas
  • Alternative to LASIK or PRK procedures
  • Implants provide permanent vision correction but can be removed if desired

ICL surgery (Implantable Collamer Lens) is a state-of-the-art solution for addressing refractive errors. These lens implants are designed to be inserted in the eye, behind the iris. Once in place, the Phakic Intraocular Lens (ICL) works in conjunction with the eye’s natural focusing system to deliver sharper, clearer vision. Phakic ICLs are an ideal solution for people with a high prescription or thin corneas, who need or want to rid themselves of glasses or contact lenses.

ICL surgery offer patients an alternative to corneal refractive procedures, such as LASIK or PRK. ICL surgery implants have distinct advantages over corneal refractive procedures. They provide a superior quality of vision. They can correct a wide range of refractive errors, including very strong errors. An ICL surgery implant can be left in permanently, but if the need or desire arises, these lenses can be removed or updated to meet potential changes in your vision needs.

Advantages of Phakic IOLs go beyond their versatility and corrective strength. Several design features of the lenses make the implantation procedure safe, minimize recovery time, and minimize the occurrence of post-operative complications. If you have a need or desire for quality vision correction, Phakic ICLs are not just an alternative, they are the clear choice for superior vision quality.

Benefits and highlights:

  • ICL surgery corrects high prescription needs that are not addressable by LASIK or PRK
  • It does not alter the shape or thickness of the cornea
  • Is reversible and removable
  • Delivers high visual quality
  • Provides freedom from glasses and contact lenses
  • Outpatient procedure with quick recovery

INSIGHTS: A PATIENT STORY

Marlene waited for 5 years to be a candidate for LASIK or PRK, or FDA approval of the ICL procedure. None happened. She researched and found out that CODET was the right place for her.

My vision was so poor, but LASIK and PRK were not an option for me. I had ICL surgery done at CODET, and it was a wonderful experience. I truly recommend traveling to CODET for eye surgery!
