Vision Screening
CODET’s vision screening services are an efficient and cost-effective way to identify children with visual impairments or eye conditions that are likely to lead to vision loss. Once identified, a referral can be made to an appropriate eye care professional for early evaluation and treatment.
What kinds of eye problems can be detected via vision screening?
The main goal of vision screening is to identify children who have or are at risk of developing Amblyopia, which can lead to permanent visual impairment unless treated in early childhood. Other problems that can be detected by vision screening include Strabismus (eye misalignment), Cataracts, Glaucoma, Ptosis (drooping eyelid), refractive errors such as Myopia (nearsightedness), Hyperopia (farsightedness), Astigmatism, and other more serious conditions such as tumors or neurological diseases.
At what age should a child have his or her vision screened?
Vision screening is most effective when performed periodically throughout childhood. The earlier a problem is detected, the better the chance of obtaining optimal vision through appropriate treatment. The first vision screening should be performed by an Ophthalmologist at the 4th week of age. Annual, age-appropriate vision screenings should be continued throughout infancy and childhood.

Why CODET for Pediatric Eye Care?
Children suffer from many of the same eye conditions as adults but, when being cared for, require a special touch. We founded our Pediatric Ophthalmology Service in order to make sure children could receive top vision treatments using the world’s best diagnostic and surgical equipment.

Technology and Specialized Diagnosis
Some of our specialized diagnostic techniques and equipment adapted just for children include:
- Eye exams (primary eye care, contact lens fitting, low vision services using equipment made specifically for kids)
- Ocular coherence tomography (OCT, a test that uses light waves to take pictures of the retina) We use the most advanced OCT, Heidelberg Spectralis
- Ocular ultrasounds (a test that produces 2-D image of the eye and surrounding areas to show growths or other problems)
- Retinal and eye photography (taking pictures of the back of eye to look for signs of damage)
- Topography (a test that creates a 3-D map of the curves on the cornea’s surface)
- Visual field testing (assesses your child’s scope of vision, including on both sides)
