Highlights from the Cornea Sessions
During the Cornea-focused portion of the course, Dr. Erik Navas, Co-Director of the Cornea Service, delivered an insightful lecture titled “The Importance of the Epithelial Layer in the Anterior Segment”. In this presentation, Dr. Navas explained how the health and integrity of the epithelial layer—the eye’s outermost surface—plays a critical role in overall corneal health and recovery after surgeries, impacting vision quality and patient outcomes.
Dr. Arturo Chayet’s Lectures on Advanced Eye Surgery
Dr. Arturo Chayet, founder and Medical Director here at CODET Vision Institute, contributed extensively with three lectures covering important and evolving topics:
- “Current Perspectives on Pterygium”: Dr. Chayet discussed the latest understanding and treatment approaches for pterygium, a common eye surface growth, emphasizing both medical management and surgical innovations.
- “Evolution of Surface Surgery (PRK to Femto-PRK)”: This talk covered advancements in surface laser surgeries for vision correction, highlighting how newer femtosecond laser technology has improved precision, safety, and patient recovery.
- “Evolution from LASIK to All-Laser LASIK”: Dr. Chayet explained the evolution of cutting-edge laser techniques that enhance the effectiveness and safety of refractive surgery. Specifically he spoke on the evolution from the traditional LASIK procedure to the current standard All-Laser LASIK.
- “CLEAR Femtosecond Z8”: This presentation talked about CLEAR, the latest innovation in refractive surgery, and demonstrated how the Femtosecond Z8 Laser delivers precise, minimally invasive vision correction results.
