Strengthening Diabetes Awareness and Prevention in the Community

Prevention and visual care were promoted through diabetes awareness events, reinforcing CODET’s commitment to the overall well-being of its patients and the community.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month, a dedicated time to educate, prevent, and raise understanding about the impact of diabetes on overall and visual health. Additionally, World Diabetes Day is observed every November 14, with the goal of promoting early diagnosis, increasing public awareness, and encouraging actions that help reduce diabetes-related complications.

In this context, Dr. Irma Zamudio, Ophthalmic Surgeon at CODET Vision Institute, played an active role in two important initiatives focused on promoting prevention and eye-health awareness among people living with diabetes.

Lecture on the Current State of Diabetes and Its Ophthalmic Complications

During November, Dr. Zamudio delivered the lecture “Ophthalmic Complications of Diabetes” as part of the course organized by the Secretary of Health in Baja California . In her presentation, she provided an updated overview of the current state of diabetes in Mexico, highlighting its high prevalence and the significant impact it has on the visual health of the population.

Dr. Zamudio explained how uncontrolled or untreated diabetes can lead to serious eye diseases, including diabetic retinopathy and macular edema, conditions that can cause irreversible vision loss when not detected early. She emphasized the importance of both healthcare professionals and the general public adopting a strong culture of prevention to identify these complications in their early stages.

Participation in the “Diabetic Eye Week Walk”

In addition to her educational efforts, Dr. Zamudio also participated in the “Diabetic Eye Week Walk”, an event organized by the Baja California Ophthalmology College on November 23. This walk aimed to promote healthy habits and reinforce the message about the importance of regular ophthalmic check-ups for individuals living with diabetes.

Her participation reflects CODET’s and its medical team’s ongoing commitment to the community, supporting initiatives that foster prevention and access to reliable information on visual health.

The Importance of Ophthalmic Check-Ups for People with Diabetes

Diabetes-related eye diseases often show no symptoms in their early stages, making it essential for patients to undergo regular ophthalmic examinations. Early diagnosis can help prevent permanent damage and protect long-term vision.

At CODET Vision Institute, we are deeply committed to promoting a culture of prevention and providing continuous education to our patients. Our mission is to support them at every step of their visual-health journey, offering personalized care, clear information, and advanced technology to help them maintain healthy vision.
