CODET Showcases Museum-Like Exhibit of the original Intralase Laser from 2001

This historic device, originally manufactured in the early 2000’s is in exhibition at CODET Vision Institute, in a museum-like exhibition paying homage to this now legendary relic in ophthalmology and vision correction surgery.

In 1995, Dr. Arturo Chayet performed the first ever All-Laser LASIK procedure, whereby he used a picosecond laser to create the corneal flap. The success of this procedure inspired Dr. Tibor Juhasz and Dr. Ron Kurtz to continue to innovate and develop an innovative laser for creating corneal flaps. Over time, at the University of Michigan, Dr. Juhasz and Dr. Kurtz eventually developed the ability to use a femtosecond laser in the  All-Laser-LASIK procedure. This laser proved to be more effective than the picosecond variety, leading to the formation of the medical device startup, Intralase.

In 2001, Intralase and CODET Vision Institute began a series of clinical trials that culminated in the clinical application of a newly developed femtosecond laser made exclusively for the All-Laser-LASIK procedure. Following its eventual FDA approval, this procedure immediately became the most widely used vision correction procedure worldwide, which is still the case today.

All-Laser LASIK is one of the numerous procedures that has been clinically developed at CODET Vision Institute in Tijuana, Mexico since 1986.
