Earlier this May, CODET Vision Institute proudly participated in the monthly meeting of ARHITAC, where local business leaders and human resources professionals gathered to discuss employee wellness, workplace health, and organizational development.
As part of the event, Dr. Erik Navas Villar, Co-Director of the Cornea Service at CODET Vision Institute, delivered an educational lecture focused on ophthalmic emergencies in the workplace and the importance of timely eye care.
Raising Awareness About Workplace Eye Emergencies
During his presentation, Dr. Erik Navas Villar discussed common eye emergencies that can occur in workplace environments and how early intervention can help protect vision and prevent long-term complications.
Topics included:
- Eye injuries caused by foreign objects or chemicals
- Corneal trauma and urgent ocular conditions
- The importance of immediate ophthalmic evaluation
- Preventive measures to promote eye safety in the workplace
Dr. Navas also explained what to do in the event of an eye injury caused by a blow to the eye or a foreign object entering the eye. As part of the presentation, he demonstrated how to create a temporary rigid eye shield using common office materials. This protective barrier helps minimize additional damage to the eye while the patient seeks immediate medical attention.
The lecture also emphasized how employee education and access to specialized eye care can play a key role in maintaining both visual health and workplace productivity.
