AcrySof® IQ PanOptix®: Vision Without Borders 11/1/2017

In our previous newsletter, we talked about cataract surgery, which is the most efficient technique to treat cataracts, as well as the evolution of implant technology for intraocular lenses; from the first monofocal technology to the most modern commercially available technology, which is trifocal technology, and, more specifically, of the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix ® Lens.

In this newsletter, CODET Vision Institute wants to let you know more about the different intraocular implant technologies and the benefits that they have for the patient. Intraocular lenses (IOLs) are medical devices that are implanted inside the eye to replace the eye’s natural lens when this is removed during cataract surgery. However, not all intraocular implants are the same since there are different types:

  • Monofocal. The first monofocal lens was created in 1949. Since then, it has gone through many modifications in the materials used in its production: UV and other (blue light) filters have been added as well as changes in the lens’s design. This kind of lens, as its name indicates, is designed to see well only at one distance.

  • Multifocal. This type of intraocular lenses seeks to help the patient see at different distances, giving them a great deal of independence in the use of aerial lenses.

  • Trifocal. They are the latest generation in intraocular lenses. Just like multifocal lenses, they are designed to see at different distances but at a better quality.

  • Toric. This type of lens is designed to correct astigmatism. It is a lens technology that can be combined with any of the previously mentioned. This way there can be monofocal, multifocal o trifocal toric lenses.

The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix ® and the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix Toric lenses are high technology trifocal lenses, which were approved for commercial use in Europe and more recently in Mexico. These technologies are not available in USA.

This technology, besides the high biocompatible patented material AcrySof™ proven in more than 100 million implants in the world, also has the unique ENLIGHTEN (Enhanced LIGHT Energy) technology that optimizes the amount of light that gets to the retina, which results in better quality images in different lights conditions in the environment.

The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix ® Lens, in contrast with other trifocal lenses, has 3 added power that allow vision to be more natural in the different ranges of visual distance. The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix ® Lens is designed so that the IOL adapts in a more natural way in the patient.

It is important for a cataract surgery specialist to evaluate what kind of intraocular lens is the best for every specific case for each patient. At CODET Vision Institute, we have the best doctors and the most advanced and forthcoming implant technologies in intraocular lenses for a Vision Without Borders. Even before these technologies are available in USA we have them here for you . If you are interested in knowing if AcrySof® IQ PanOptix ® or AcrySof® IQ PanOptix Toric technology is for you, please feel free to contact us.
