CODET Staff Complete UABC English Course in Ophthalmology Communication

Our staff completed a UABC continuing education course in English for ophthalmology, strengthening bilingual communication and patient care.

To strengthen communication with English-speaking patients from the United States, the Centro de Educación Continua (CEC) of the Univesidad Autonoma de Baja California (UABC) held the closing ceremony of the course English in Ophthalmology: Consultation and Communication. The program was conducted at CODET Vision Institute and completed by members of the CODET clinical team.

This specialized training reflects CODET’s ongoing commitment to professional development and to delivering clear, safe, and patient-centered ophthalmic care for a growing international patient population.

Improving Communication for Better Patient Care

The course was designed to provide healthcare professionals with the confidence and precision needed to communicate effectively in English during ophthalmology consultations. Participants strengthened their command of technical vocabulary, improved listening and speaking skills, and developed communication strategies focused on delivering professional, empathetic clinical care.

For CODET patients, this translates into:

  • Clearer explanations of diagnoses and treatment options
  • Better understanding during eye exams and procedures
  • Increased comfort and trust throughout the patient journey

Comprehensive Training in Ophthalmic English

The program was structured into two learning levels:

  • Beginner level, taught by Aranza Anahí Montoya Bravo
  • Upper-intermediate level, led by Francisco Javier Velázquez León

Key topics included ophthalmic foundations and anatomy, symptoms and patient complaints, diagnostic tests and procedures, patient management, visual acuity exams, tonometry, and other essential aspects of everyday ophthalmic practice.

Patient-Centered Language and Professional Courtesy

In addition to clinical terminology, participants strengthened their use of service-oriented expressions, basic exam instructions, and language related to medical records and personal data management. These skills are essential for ensuring consultations that are clear, efficient, and reassuring, particularly for monolingual English-speaking patients.

Strengthening Bilingual Care in Baja California

Through initiatives like this, UABC’s Continuing Education Center reinforces its commitment to advancing healthcare professionalization while directly supporting the growth of high-quality bilingual medical services in Baja California.

For CODET Vision Institute, investing in ongoing staff education strengthens our ability to serve international patients, enhances clinical communication, and reinforces our role as a trusted destination for ophthalmic care and medical tourism in the region.
