Dr. Adriana Valdés Barrena, head of the Ophthalmopediatric and Strabismus Department at CODET Vision Institute, was invited to be a speaker at the XI International Course of the Mexican Center of Strabismus A.C. 2018, that took place from October 4th to October 6th in the Mexican Society of Ophthalmology in Mexico City.
Dr. Valdés Barrena participated in the Associated Strabismus to Systemic Diseases and Trauma Module where she presented her topic “Lysosomal Diseases” where she spoke about how lysosomal diseases are a part of the rare diseases that are responsible for at least 30% of deaths in minors under the age of 5. There are patients that are not diagnosed and with ophthalmological exploration sometimes it can be detected in very emerging states. Patients that have already been diagnosed must have an ophthalmological follow-up. An early diagnosis can improve quality of life and even increase the odds of the patient surviving.
