Mission at CODET Provides 50 Free Cataract Surgeries to Underserved Patients
The Andrew Dougherty Vision Foundation partnered with CODET Vision Institute to provide 50 life-changing free cataract surgeries, restoring sight to patients in need.
At CODET Vision Institute, we believe that everyone deserves the gift of sight, regardless of their circumstances. That’s why we’re proud to share the success of a recent humanitarian mission in partnership with the Andrew Dougherty Vision Foundation — a mission that gave 50 underserved patients their vision back through free, life-changing cataract surgery.
These surgeries were provided to patients from Fundación +Luz, many of whom had suffered for years with worsening vision and no access to affordable eye care. Thanks to the generous funding from the Andrew Dougherty Vision Foundation and the skill of our expert surgeons, these individuals can now see clearly again — many for the first time in decades.
What Are Cataracts and Why Treatment Matters
Cataracts are a common but serious age-related condition where the eye’s lens becomes cloudy, making it difficult to see clearly. Left untreated, cataracts can lead to total vision loss, affecting daily tasks like driving, reading, or recognizing loved ones’ faces. For many of our patients, cataracts meant isolation, lost independence, and emotional distress.
Which is why 50 patients from Fundación +Luz, all with limited access to eye care, received free cataract surgeries at CODET Vision Institute. These surgeries were fully funded by the Andrew Dougherty Vision Foundation, ensuring that cost was not a barrier to restoring their vision.
Transforming Lives Through Generosity and Expertise
This mission was only possible thanks to the compassion and commitment of the Andrew Dougherty Vision Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds pro bono eye surgeries for people in need around the world — from local underserved communities to war-torn and disaster-affected regions.
In addition to funding vision-restoring procedures, the foundation also trains local eye surgeons in cutting-edge cataract and refractive techniques, creating lasting impact in the communities they serve.
