Driven by a Mission to Fight Blindness: Dr. Zamudio Joins Expert Retina Course on Macular Diseases

Dr. Irma Zamudio joins a multi-day retina course on macular diseases at three top ophthalmology hospitals in Mexico.

At CODET Vision Institute, we believe that the best patient care begins with continuous learning. That’s why we’re proud to share that Dr. Irma Zamudio recently participated in an advanced retina course titled: “Preceptorship Expert Approach: Macular Diseases”—a multi-day academic and surgical program held across three of Mexico’s most prestigious ophthalmology institutions:

Each day of the course was hosted at a different hospital, providing participants with a diverse and comprehensive educational experience.

About the Course: A Deep Dive into Macular Diseases

This high-level program brought together retina specialists from across Mexico and abroad to strengthen their clinical and surgical expertise in managing macular diseases, including:

Participants received both theoretical training and hands-on surgical instruction, engaging in expert-led discussions, clinical case reviews, and sessions on the latest innovations in diagnostics and treatment.

The rotating format across three hospitals allowed for exposure to varied surgical approaches, technologies, and clinical perspectives, enriching the learning experience and encouraging knowledge exchange between institutions.

Why Retinal Disease Education Matters at CODET

At CODET Vision Institute, we place a particular emphasis on the study and treatment of retinal diseases because of their significant impact on vision health in Mexico. According to national data:

  • Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the country
  • Glaucoma follows in second place
  • And age-related macular degeneration (AMD) ranks third

These conditions often progress silently and without symptoms in early stages, making early detection, diagnosis, and advanced treatment training critical in reducing preventable blindness in our communities.

By investing in ongoing medical education like this retina course, we continue to equip our specialists with the skills needed to treat these conditions with precision, innovation, and compassion.
