Dr. David Ancona, Ocular Oncologist and Retina Specialist, presented information about Melanoma Uveal and Retinoblastoma cases at CODET Vision Institute's June 2021 Academic Session.
June’s academic session took place on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021. We had the honor of having Dr. David Ancona as a guest speaker. Dr. Ancona is a Specialist in Ocular Oncology and Retina Specialist at the Zambrano Hellion Hospital at Tecnologico de Monterrey University. He studied his specialty on Ocular Oncology in the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The subject of this webinar was “Update on Ocular Oncology: Uveal Melanoma and Retinoblastoma.”
Dr. Ancona shared his experience in a collaborative study called “Choroidal Nevus Imaging Features in 3,806 cases and Risk Factors for Transformation into Melanoma in 2,355 cases”. The study identified new techniques that can be used to determine the nature of an injury and related variables that could increase a patient’s risk of developing Melanoma. Dr. Ancona also explained the different treatments for Melanoma and Retinoblastoma.
The live session concluded with Dr. Adriana Valdés, Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Service at CODET Vision Institute, leading a discussion roundtable with Dr. Ancona and taking questions from the ophthalmologists in attendance.
We thank Dr. David Ancona for his informative lesson and for participating in our live academic session this month.
